Michael O'Brien, MBA
Director of Hospital Operations
Mike O’Brien is the Director of Hospital Operations at VSES. Born and raised in Michigan, Mike has lived in Rochester for over 35 years. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from RIT and an Executive MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester.
Having been in the aerospace and defense industry for 35 years, working in the veterinary field is a new career direction for Mike. He has found that everyone at VSES is extremely dedicated to their work and believes that his skills and capabilities will help VSES move forward in the future.
When he is not running VSES, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Colette, his children, Colette’s two daughters and his three (soon to be four) grandchildren. He also enjoys traveling, exercise and playing golf (although he’d like to improve!).
Jennifer Rastle, LVT
Hospital Manager Jennifer Rastle has been working in the veterinary field for more than 13 years. Jennifer, originally from West Virginia, served in the US Navy before obtaining her degree in veterinary technology. She has been a valued member of the VSES staff since 2007. Jennifer takes great pride in being a part of a team that provides exceptional, quality care to all patients.
Jennifer’s furry companions include a pitbull named Hudson and a cat named Scarlett.
Administrative Assistant & Hospital Communications
Megan is a native to the Rochester, NY area; she received her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport. Megan began working at VSES in 2006 as an Animal Care Assistant and is now the Administrative Assistant & Hospital Communications Coordinator. She has been working in animal care for 10 years.
In addition to the animals that Megan interacts with at on a daily basis, she also has three cats at home. These include a gray tabby named Gunther, a black short hair named Luna and a Siamese mix named Lord Tyrion Lannister. When not at work, Megan enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband.
Evelyn Schug, LVT
Evelyn Schug has been working in the animal care industry for over 10 years. A full time member of our staff since 2004, she is a licensed veterinary technician and is fond of the fast-paced environment at VSES. She enjoys meeting pets and their owners and is proud to be able to make a difference in their lives.
Evelyn's four-legged companions include Boadi, a female Staffordshire Terrier mix, and Mouse, a female Corgi mix. When she is not helping to care for animals at VSES, Evelyn enjoys gardening, listening to music, spending time with her dogs and traveling as much as she can.
Elizabeth Kirchner, LVT
Client Service Manager
Elizabeth Kirchner has been a valued member of the VSES staff since 2004. She holds an associate's of applied science in veterinary science technology as well as a bachelor's of business administration in veterinary hospital management, and she is licensed as a veterinary technician in the state of New York.
Elizabeth, who has worked with Monroe Veterinary Associates since she was 16, has always been interested in emergency medicine. She is an adjunct professor at Medialle College. Elizabeth shares her home with a pit bull named Sully and three cats named Tater Tot, Rollie, and Lady Puddles. She likes to spend her free time outdoors and enjoys hiking and going to the beach. Her hobbies include photography and scrapbooking.
Samuel D. Estes, LVT
Medical Staff Supervisor
Having grown up on a farm, LVT Team Leader Samuel D. Estes has spent his entire life caring for animals. He joined Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Service in May of 2008 and since that time has been an invaluable member of our emergency and critical care team. “I enjoy working for the emergency service I like the one-on-one care I can provide critical patients and knowing I am doing all I can to make the patient healthy again,” he says.
In addition to his many years of experience, Samuel has an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Alfred State College. He also has a menagerie of pets that includes two cats named Gizmo and Fluffy, Bearded Dragon named Norburt, and two Texas Longhorn Ox named Rob and Rie. Samuel’s interests include playing soccer, running, working on his model train layout and working outside on his family’s farm.
Jen Gargan, LVT
Medical Staff Supervisor
Born in Rochester and raised in the Southern Tier, Jennifer has been working in the animal field since 1998 and became a licensed veterinary technician in 2001. She joined Monroe Veterinary Associates in 2002. In addition to her LVT supervisor role, she is the neurology specialty coordinator.
She enjoys helping animals and their owners as well as working in a fast-paced emergency environment where you never know what will happen next. She especially takes pride in the medical aspects of her job, such as placing catheters and drawing blood.
She shares her home with many pets: Riley, a Pitbull mix; Saphyra, a Pitbull; Austin, a Pitbull/Bull Mastiff mix; Paige, a Manx cat; Phoebe, a domestic shorthair cat; and Oliver, a Siamese mix cat.
During her free time, Jennifer participates in animal fundraisers. Austin, her Pitbull/Bull Mastiff, loves to join her in helping animals, too! She also enjoys obedience training, yard work, scrapbooking and playing ball or Frisbee with the dogs.
Christine West, LVT
Medical Staff Supervisor
Born in Warsaw, New York, and raised in Pavilion, New York, Christine joined Monroe Veterinary Associates in September 2008, but she has been in the animal-care field since 2006.
Christine has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Technology Management. When it comes to her job, she thrives knowing the high standard of care she and her colleagues provide pets. She also loves working with great people every day.
Christine shares her home with Neville, a Golden Retriever, and two cats, Freckles and Abby. When not at work, Christine spends time gardening, baking, cake decorating, camping and playing cards, board games, softball and kickball.
